Catching up with Jay2heel
Rare Archives Q : So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Jay2Heel A : Grew up in Oklahoma. Originally grew up in Norman, the eastside. but then bounced all over the place from OKC, to small ass cities like Shawnee, Tecumseh, i so i hold a bit of all that with me. But I'll forever be east Norman through and through
Rare Archives Q : What is a typical day/week like for Jay2Heel ?
Jay2Heel A : My day be all kinds of fucked up and all over the place lol. I get up for work in the middle of the evening and get off in the middle of the morning/night. That's the perfect time to get music shit done tho, the middle of the early morning at like 4 AM when there ain't nothing else going on. I just be cooling, minding my own business for the most part. Everything else depends on if I'm in the mood to kick it with people, lol I'm not the type to kick it with others too much unless it's with females.
Rare Archives Q : What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?
Jay2Heel A : I'd just tell em to be themselves and stick it through. There's always gonna be rough spots and all that shit. But staying with it and being true to yourself is the most important part imo.
Rare Archives Q : How important is image to you?
Jay2Heel A : Image is a huge key. I used to be one of them niggas that be like "fuck an image" but the longer I do this the more i realize it plays a huge role. It's cool to have people relate to your music and lyrics and what not, but i feel like the image helps let people visualize where you're really coming from. That's why I'm always doing photoshoots and booking video shoots. To keep my face out there. And I find that some people actually pay a bit more attention when they have a visual to go along with what they're listening to.
Rare Archives Q : How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Jay2Heel A : I just tweet out me and the homies art and hopefully people see it and fuck with it. I noticed a lot of people do a lot of ass kissing to others to get the to fuck with them. Especially here in Oklahoma. I'm not that type of person. I just hope whoever sees or plays our stuff passes it on the next person.
Rare Archives Q : What's your favorite 3 song that you've made up to this point?
Jay2Heel A : It's hard to pick but I'd say "Sumthin Dat I Need" "Good Ol JR" and "Johnny Cage"
Rare Archives Q : Who inspires you the most and why?
Jay2Heel A : The whole YoshiMob really. Everyone always puts out dope music on a consistant basis. On a good week as a collective we can drop 5-6 new tracks a week give or take. And seeing everyone working and constantly putting out singles and mixtapes always motivates to me to keep up and stay on my shit and get shit done. Yoshi really moves me. That's family
Rare Archives Q : If you could perform anywhere and with any 5 artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Jay2Heel A : It'll just be YoshiMob. I've always be dreaming and just thinking what it would be like for all of us to do a tour or some shit like that, even just one show. The energy would be amazing, I wouldn't wanna do it with any one else but a select few.
Rare Archives Q : So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Jay2Heel A : I got 2 projects coming out. "LoFi God 7" which is gonna be collab tracks w people in YoshiMob and a full solo LP I'm working on too with some videos and visuals to go with it.
Rare archives Q : If you weren't making music wohatvwould you he doing?
Jay2Heel A : If I wasn't making music my ass would probably be trying to be a pro wrestler or some shit lmao. I dream too big to be a regular nigga.
Rare Archives Q : What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Jay2Heel A : It will just be more of the same, hella music, hella videos and other visuals. I actually wanna get into some vlogging so we gonna see how that goes.
